David Wright will present Erin with check in pre-game ceremony; two Olympians join in honoring this year’s winner

LeftRightLeftRightForwardMarch! partner, The M Foundation, has named Erin Bundy as its 2013 Gold winner of the annual M Award, recognizing high school athletes who are exemplary role models. New York Mets All-star David Wright will present Bundy with her $10,000 check in a pregame event at Citi Field in New York today, September 28.

Bundy, the varsity golf captain at her Knightstown, Indiana, high school, will be able use half of the check for college tuition and the other half to give to a charity of her choice. She was selected as this year’s winner because of the many ways she has served others. Through the Step Forward for Haiti initiative, which Bundy started, she has collected thousands of new shoes for people in the impoverished nation. She has volunteered with the American Health Network to provide free physicals for students at her school and with Aeropostale to send jeans to children in need.

Bundy has endured as an athlete, playing on the golf team after recovering from four concussion injuries in junior high in basketball and cheerleading. President of her student government each year, and vice president of the National Honor Society, she has worked to make others aware of the hazards of concussions.

Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard and Olympic triathlete Hunter Kemper join the M Foundation and LeftRightLeftRightForwardMarch! in recognizing Bundy’s leadership.

“These are the kind of student leaders that give us all hope for a bright future,” Hunter Kemper, Olympic triathlete, told the M Foundation.  “It’s worth celebrating accomplishments like Erin’s.  At a time when Americans are too often divided, her example reminds us of the importance of working together to help others in need.”

“The M Award is a great way to put a spotlight on the importance of community service,” said Olympic swimmer Amanda Beard.  “Erin reminds us that you can’t start too early to think about and work for things that are important, and that help our neighbors, even when we won’t agree on everything.”

Bundy was selected by a panel of judges consisting of Mission Athletecare™ brand executives, The M Foundation staff, and Mission brand athlete partners including Serena Williams, Dwyane Wade and Georges St-Pierre among others.

The $10,000 prize is presented by MISSION Athletecare™ and the David Wright Foundation, and sponsored by LeftRightLeftRightForwardMarch!, a non-profit foundation that champions the efforts of politically diverse Americans to promote the common good.

“Erin is a young adult who inspires all of us. LeftRightLeftRightForwardMarch! is about projects like this,” said founder Foster Friess, “that demonstrate the importance of community service for all of us, working together, and we are privileged to help sponsor The M Awards.”

To date, more than 40 high school student athletes have been recognized nationally with Bronze and Silver M Awards, along with one other Gold M Award winner.
